We operate under a private hire license which allows us to transfer the cyclist as well as their bikes. This means that we spend time with riders doing the Hebridean Way when they arrive to take them to their starting destination mostly Vatersay on Barra and return transfers from the Butt of Lewis and onwards to any of the ferry or airports for their return trip.
It is a great opportunity to listen to the expectations of the cycle trip and afterwards the experience. I am always looking out for what it is we can do better to make the experience the best it can be. I can’t do anything with the weather but I do know where you can stop for a coffee/tea and some cake.
Great being on the bike up to 4-6 hours day, but this is an even better experience if you can stop along the journey and relax. Also where can you get something to eat for lunch as riding a bike costs a lot of energy.
Our islands are not littered with places where you can stop for a some cake or a meal. It requires some local knowledge to figure it all out. The Outer Hebrides doesn’t give up its secrets quickly. This is where we come in guiding our customers when transferring them.
The thing I may have not appreciated so much but now do is how important it is for our customers to have a contact in the Outer Hebrides.
HebShuttle has representation throughout the Outer Hebrides and is always there at the end of the phone. We have our offices in Balivanich and Stornoway and will always help in anyway we can. This is a great help it seems. Our local knowledge and contacts offers a great peace of mind. It is all part of our welcoming culture.
